Flinders Ports and ESRI Australia have won the Technical Excellence Award at the South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards 2015. The award was given for Flinders Ports’ and ESRI Australia’s work to develop a software platform that provides Flinders Ports with a single, common operating picture of all sea and land operations. Flinders Ports and ESRI Australia were presented with the award at the South Australian Spatial Excellence Awards Dinner in Adelaide on 14 August.
“We are honoured to win the Technical Excellence Award in partnership with ESRI Australia. Having our commitment to Geographic Information System (GIS) technology recognised is certainly a privilege,” said Captain Carl Kavina, General Manager, Marine Operations at Flinders Ports.
The new system, called vPort provides real-time data on vessels and their locations. In what is potentially a major boost for risk management, vPort also has a data playback system to enable comprehensive investigation and analysis of safety incidents in port.
“The technology we’ve developed with ESRI Australia is leading edge and gives us superior levels of spatial awareness across both marine and landside operations. We’ve been able to roll this out across our entire operations, which is benefitting our clients and other stakeholders,” said Captain Kavina.
Following the award win, Flinders Ports and ESRI Australia were shortlisted as finalists in the National Spatial Excellence Awards, which are set to take place in Melbourne in April 2016.
